Emma’s research skills were central to establishing that it was - and is - possible to develop cost-effective psycho-social interventions to complement bio-medical and surgical treatments for people with disfigurements... a fact which is now recognised in some but by no means all the relevant clinical teams/specialties. Her work was also critical in establishing the credibility of 'disfigurement research' which led to a partnership between Changing Faces and the University of the West of England that saw the Centre for Appearance and Disfigurement Research emerge in the late 1990s - now the world leader research centre.
